Course Information

Year 5 11+ Preparation Course

This course begins in the September of Year 5 and runs through to the exam the following year. The course covers everything your child will need to know in order to be fully prepared for the exam; we cover all question types and focus on speed and exam skills. The lessons are held in small group sessions (maximum of four children) as this ensures your child receives individual and personalised attention whilst still benefitting from the interaction with other students.

The lessons are one hour long and every week they will be set homework (roughly 90 minutes) to consolidate and practise what we cover. We will work on a fortnightly rotation: week 1 will focus on Maths and Verbal Reasoning skills, and week 2 on Non-Verbal Reasoning and English.

Before the course starts, I send out a materials list for parents to purchase that will be used for homework tasks.

Once we have covered all of the content, I do regular mock sessions in exam conditions to enable us to track progress. From their results, I am able to compile a detailed breakdown of their performance and create a specific action plan to improve.

What to expect in the Year 5 11+ Preparation Course:

  • A weekly 60 minute lesson.

  • Approximately 90 minutes of homework each week. Parents are expected to ensure that the homework is completed and also mark it – answers will be provided!

  • Regular feedback to help you best support your child including a parent consultation in the summer term to advise how best to support your child in the final run up to the exam.

  • Regular mock testing and reports to track progress and identify target areas.

  • Development of exam technique to ensure speed and accuracy.
